"You gotta be kidding me," I grumbled, sticking my head through the curtains of my bedroom window for the first time today only to find the same outcome as every other day for the past two weeks.
Rain.
It should be impossible to have rain in summer, there should be some kind of natural law against it or something. But no. Here it was, determined to spoil my few weeks of freedom.
See, I love the sun. The hot rays beating down on my skin, the bright and colourful scenery around me, the chance to go out and have some good, old fashioned fun at the beach - just don't put me next to the water -. Summer is what I live for, for me, there's no better time of the year.
But there is one particularly good-looking blond who would disagree with me here. He hates the heat, and his porcelain skin confirms that, it's crazy how pale he is. He looks fine in winter and a little odd in summer. Like he's been living in a dark cave somewhere which I'm sure he'd prefer to be. It was always the same, he was like some sort of
reverse Scrooge. But that's what makes my summer that little bit more fun.
See, every summer, I have the pleasure of dragging this cute little blond out of his sanctuary of a house and ultimately showing him how to have fun - though he'll always deny he had any once summer's over -. And ever summer has been good enough to do that. But this year, it has done nothing but rain and ultimately spoil my fun.
"I know you're over there laughing at me Roxas," I said with a sigh. This sucked, and I would simply go to his place to bug him instead if my car wasn't a heap of expensive crap and at the mechanics. Ah, speak of the devil, one particular mechanic was calling me now, or was he going to be a saint today? "Xaldin, give me some good news baby." I received a grunt in response which I barely heard over all of the shouting in the background.
"Cid fixed your car," he answered me and I gave a happy sigh.
"Tell him he's my hero, and any sort of sexual relief he wants, I'll give it to him." Don't worry it's a joke, and everyone knew that, trust me I say it enough to my friends that they all learn to laugh it off - though Roxas does grace me with a worth while blush. Speaking of Roxas, "can I come pick it up now? There's somewhere I need to go."
"Sure. But he's on a rampage and you know he's after the money you owe him." I appreciated the warning, and if it wasn't so important that I get out of this god forsaken house, I'd leave it for a day or two. But this, was life or death.
"Thanks Xaldin, I'll be over to get it soon." Another grunt from the guy and he was gone, leaving me to flip my phone closed and look out the window again with some small hope that the weather might have changed for me. Of course I was kidding myself, finally deciding to remove myself from my bed and walk towards the bathroom to shower with a dejected sigh towards the weather, but a small grin at the day ahead.
********
"Is it safe?" I asked, peaking my head around the front door of the mechanics shop to find Xaldin, standing behind the counter stacking anti-freeze - though why since it was the beginning of summer, was a mystery to me.
"Is it ever safe? Especially for you." He had a good point, Cid wanted my head served on a gold platter for the trouble I cause him. Then again, buttering him up to let me off's not a hard thing to do surprisingly.
"Axel!" Oh shit, and here I thought I could just get the car and run, or rather
drive. "Where the fuck's my money?"
"Oh come on Cid live a little, I'm just building up my debt so when I pay you, you'll be a millionaire." And by my poor money standards, - with how much I owed him, - he practically was.
"None of your bullshit Axel, I want that god damn money," he glared at me angrily, shaking his grubby mechanic cloth and it was almost comical. I would have laughed if it wouldn't land me with my head under a car tyre and Cid's foot on the lever.
With a sigh I dug my hand into my jean pocket, pulling out my wallet with a frown, this money was supposed to go towards getting Roxas out of the house this summer. I guess that's what happens when I buy a car from Luxord. "Yeah yeah, here's your money," it didn't stay on the counter long before Cid swiped it with a grin and counted the bills.
"Always a pleasure Axel," he said smugly before walking away and I sighed.
"Here," Xaldin then said, passing me my car keys. "It's around the side."
"I swear Xaldin, you're an angel," he scoffed at me, shooing me out of the shop.
"And Axel, try not to pester that little blond of yours too much, I get the back lash of listening to him blabber when he comes to work here." I laughed, giving no promise of anything and walked out of the door, putting up my hood in the process and making my way towards my car.
********
"Oh Roxy," I sang as I knocked on the door of his house though rather than the blond I expected to answer the door a spiky haired brunet invaded my vision instead, though it was stupid of me to think Sora would be out of the house in this weather. "Hey Sora," I grinned, wrapping my arm around his neck playfully.
"Long time no see Axel," he laughed back, trying to pry himself out of my grip before I let go with a smile. "What's up?"
"All this rain is getting me down," I pouted making Sora giggle. "Besides I just got my car back so I thought I'd pay a visit."
"Well I guessed that you were here to see Roxas, that much is obvious," he said with a knowing smirk and I shrugged.
"You know me I just can't leave the little guy alone." Sora rolled his eyes.
"He's upstairs, why don't you go say good morning," he grinned mischievously and I mirrored his look. This was always the fun part.
"By the way, where's Riku?" He was usually inseparable when it came to Sora.
"On his way to pick me up."
"Oh so we'll be home alone huh?" I wiggled my eyebrows making the brunet laugh again.
"No funny business," Sora warned as he walked away and I held up my hands in defence.
"Scouts honour."
"I know you didn't go to scouts Axel," he called from the living room making me grin before quietly making my way up the stairs and towards Roxas' bedroom.
I opened the door silently, a worthy feat since this door obviously had some sort of metal related arthritis the way this thing squeaked. He was there alright, sound asleep on his back, sprawled with one foot hanging over the side of the bed and the blankets only covering up to his bellybutton, exposing his bare, pale chest. Hot damn, if I could, you know I'd be all on that, but as things were I'm only here to wake the spiky blond up, though admittedly
I'm still going to have some fun with it.
With a sly grin I slid through the gap in the door soundlessly and closed it behind me, sneaking up to the bed, - expertly avoiding the creaking floorboards - and put a small amount of pressure on the mattress with my knee to test how asleep Roxas actually was. He shuffled, but only slightly, and I deemed it safe enough to swing my other leg over to straddle him and delicately cupped his wrists. With a smirk I put my face about four inches away from him and proceeded to inhale deeply, trying my best not to laugh in the process. This was going to be fun.
Everything in the room was silent, Roxas' breathing peaceful as he slept soundly and I savoured the sound for a second before proceeding to wake the blond up in the most fun way possible. "ROXAS!" I yelled, startling the boy bellow me who tried his best to bolt upright in defence but found it impossible since his arms were pined to the bed and the look of sheer shock on his face was priceless.
"Fuck Axel I almost died," he admitted as he panted and tried to calm himself down, allowing me to fall off the bed with laughter. I wish I had a camera for every time I did that, watching Roxas' face like that over and over again would make me happy for the rest of my life.
"I couldn't resist," I breathed out through the laughter and he pouted at me, standing up and kicking me in the side though it didn't hurt and I finally stood up. "Look I'm sorry, but it's fun, you've got to admit it's fun." Obviously he didn't, but the annoyed pout was too cute.
"What are you doing here anyway?" he asked and I grinned.
"I was bored and it's raining, besides I got my car back and it's summer." The smirk I received was a one I knew he would give me, but that didn't matter, because I had other plans for today, regardless of Roxas thinking it served me right for all the 'pain' I cause him every summer. "Don't say it," I warned and he shrugged.
"Say what?" he continued to smirk and I rolled my eyes.
"Just get dressed before I drag you back into that bed," I half joked, giving my own smirk as Roxas blushed, which was enough to brighten my dreary summer day as I walked out of his bedroom.
********
"Remind me why I'm getting ready when it's raining?" Roxas said as he finished buttoning up his chequered shirt while walking down the stairs.
"Well you see, I've got this great idea, but I'm not going to tell you what it is. This weather's already spoiling my, what should be eventful, summer, and this is the only thing I've got left. So eat something then you're coming with me."
Roxas gave me a curious look but sighed and walked into the kitchen, he knew that any sort of complaint would be easily rejected and I'd charm him into listening to me, so he did as I asked without a word. "By the way, where's Sora?" Roxas called from the kitchen as I sat back down on the couch.
"Out with Riku, obviously," what kind of question was that? The apocalypse couldn't keep those two apart. Then again, if it was Roxas, I'd be the same.
He emerged again with toast and chewed on it as he fastened his watch with furrowed eyebrows and I couldn't help but smile, he was too adorable. "Here," I finally said, walking over and taking his hand, glancing up to see him blush again as I fastened the watch for him. "You ready?" he nodded as he chewed and I smiled mischievously. "Come on then, we're going for a drive on this fine summers day," I laughed as he rolled his eyes but walked out of the house.
"So where are we actually going?" Roxas asked as we drove and I smirked, locking the doors in the process.
"I'm not kidnapping you, it's just so you can't escape," I explained as he raised an eyebrow at my action. "We're going to the beach!" I cheered and I'm guessing the look he was giving me was one thinking I'm obviously insane. But it's summer, and I'd be damned if the weather was stopping me from going to the one place we have to go every summer.
"Are you bat shit insane Axel? It's pouring with rain." True, but that didn't bother me, I was going to have a fun filled day with Roxas and that was that.
"You need to learn to enjoy yourself babe," he just scoffed at me of course.
********
The rain pelted the car and I worked the wipers over time so I could see but the smile didn't leave my face as we drove and finally reached my destination. "You better get out of this car or I swear I'm going to smother your pretty little self with my cold, wet clothes when I get back," I warned Roxas before he could protest and instead he huffed, jutting out his bottom lip in an extreme pout but eventually undid his seatbelt and followed me out of the car.
"I can't believe we're doing this," he muttered as the warm rain hit our bodies, quickly soaking our clothes and splashing against our skin, and I pushed the reluctant blond towards the sand.
"Stop being such a boring sod," I laughed as he spun around to give me an offended look and tripped, grabbing onto me for support but only managing to make me fall with him, both of us landing on the mushy sand with a dull thud.
"Ow," was the first thing to come from Roxas' lips making me burst into fits of laughter again though it only took a second to realise there would be consequences to that as Roxas threw a clump of wet sand at me, hitting the top of my head and stopping my laughter dead.
When I looked up he was smirking, the expression growing as he finally buckled with laughter himself and I glared. This
was war. "Oh Roxy," I sang, grinning playfully as I all but pounced on him, swiftly grabbing both of his hands and cupping them both in one of my own as I picked up a hand full of sand and shoved it down his shirt, eliciting a shocked gasp and I smirked back.
"You bastard," he growled, wriggling out of my grasp and managing to somehow flip us over as I laughed, flipping us again in seconds with another triumphant smirk.
Finally we both panted for breath after a long struggle. I won of course, straddling the little blond, his wrists pressed against the sand beneath us, "I win, give it up Rox," I taunted him and he gave a small laugh.
"Alright fine, you win," he admitted. "So what are the chances of you getting off me?"
"Hmm," I thought for less than a second, I knew my answer to that question. "Slim," I grinned.
"Come on Ax, I'm soaking and I still have sand down my shirt," he laughed again sweetly and I joined him.
It was funny how perfect all of this seemed, the summer rain beating against our bodies, the racing hearts we both had, and I knew it wasn't just me because I could feel Roxas' pulse through his wrists, my stomach giving its own little flip as the thought slammed into the front of my head. 'Maybe I should kiss him.' God knows I want to, I've wanted to for years but never had the courage. But now
"Rox," I started without even thinking, licking my already wet lips as I did so, tasting the rain as it trickled down my face and felt my heart beat even faster with nerves, the sound invading my ears, and it was the only thing I could hear apart from the pitter patter of water against sand, the sound almost matching that of my own heart beat.
"Yeah?" he asked curiously and I knew I couldn't back out now. It was now or never.
"Don't kill me for this," was all I said before slowly lowering myself to press my lips against his in a gentle kiss that made my chest explode with butterflies, and I finally let my eyes close as I felt him kiss me back. I pulled away slowly but pressed my lips down again with a little more gentle pressure and he parted his own lips slightly, allowing me to kiss him as passionately as I'd always wanted to, our tongues meeting to caress softly and I relaxed knowing I wasn't the only one who wanted this.
I finally pulled away to breathe, staring into Roxas' eyes as we both caught our breath. "W-what was that for?" he asked me and it was probably one of the last questions I expected, surely there's a clear message that comes with kissing like that.
"You really want an answer to that?" I asked with a somewhat amused and awkward laugh.
"I just
didn't expect it," he admitted and I began to worry perhaps he hadn't wanted it after all.
"Was it a bad thing?" I asked, and was relieved when he shook his head no.
"No! I-" his blush brightened, tinting his pale skin beautifully. "I wanted you to," he mumbled and my heart skipped as I smiled.
"Then you won't mind me doing it again?" I asked and he looked at me with his own small smile as I pressed my lips once again against his is a loving kiss. "Come on, we better get going before we freeze," I finally said, standing up from my position above Roxas and offering him my hand which he took and helped himself up with, letting the contact linger before he linked his fingers with mine and we walked back to the car.
********
The drive back was happy, even in the gloomy weather, and I turned the heater on as Roxas shivered, his clothes sticking to his body and his usually lively blond hair drooping to stick to his face as the water, clinging for its life to the ends of his spikes finally dripped onto his clothes if it wasn't already travelling down his pink hazed cheeks. He sighed as the warm air hit his body and relaxed against the seat. "If I get a cold I'm going to kill you, you know," he said and I laughed.
"Don't worry babe, I'll look after you," I winked back and he blushed as we pulled up in front of his house.
"Come on, you can dry off here and get a shower, your old clothes are still here from last summer," Roxas admitted, rolling his eyes with a smile as he got out the car and I followed him.
"Hey Roxy that's going a bit fast don't you think? Asking me to shower with you and all," the look on his face was once again priceless. "Of course, I wouldn't object to it."
"N-not with me moron!" he squeaked.
"Just kidding babe, besides there's something I need to do."
He gave me a curious look, "what's that?"
I took his hand once we were inside and smiled down at him. "Well there's that all important question of, will you be my boyfriend?"
"Are you going to try and shower with me?" he asked and I laughed.
"No."
"Then yes," he smiled and I pecked him again on the lips.
********
"See, summer isn't all bad," I said once I walked back into Roxas' room clad in a pair of red flame shorts and a black vest, finally warm, dry and clean.
"I just can't believe you even took me to the beach in the rain. Though I'm even more surprised since you hate rain."
"Well you know, I quite like summer rain," I grinned. "Can I stay tonight?"
"If you behave."
I held my hands up in defence, with a wide, amused grin, "scouts honour."
"You didn't go to scouts Axel," Roxas sighed before yawning and climbing into bed and I followed suit, wrapping my arms around him with a contented sigh and drifting off to sleep with a happy smile on my face.
********
I woke up in the morning to bright light shining into my eyes and squinted as they adjusted before realising what that bright light was, and as I looked out of the window I grinned. Sun. Precious sun. "Rox look, seems like it's going to be a good summer after all," I said excitedly though received a groan in response and the blond giving me a weak glare. "What's up babe?"
"Axel," he breathed out groggily and I knew exactly what was wrong. "I'm going to kill you," he seethed and I laughed nervously. Oh shit, now I was in trouble.
"Now now Roxy, it was the rain I swear," I said, backing away from the blond as he chased me down the stairs.
But even though he still won't admit it to this day. I know he likes that summer rain
Just as much as I do.
